First, an explanation:
Gaming was put on hold due to real life getting in the way. We are starting up again with Jeff’s Campaign in the Forgotten Realms. We have lost two players and for the sake of simplicity, we are assuming that the PCs were never there. We are also assuming that their replacements were always there. Hilda the Barbarian, Tambar the cleric and Vicathyra the sorcerer are no more. They have been replaced by a dwarven cleric and a human sorcerer.
After the battle of Derelune, we had raided Froderick’s False Tomb. We came back up into the city and rested at an inn. While we slept, we all had the same dream of Lathander commanded us to go south. In the morning, we readied ourselves for a journey and left to the south.
We walked all day until we arrived in the small village of Glen Hollow. A few men greeted us. The village elder, Obed, invited us into his home. He spoke of the Barrow King, a spirit that revels in torturing and killing innocent people. Obed said that the Barrow King has been sending raiders to the village to pillage and kill. He asked us to go to the home of the Barrow King, kill the raiders and destroy the spirit that has been tormenting them. He will pay us a sum of one hundred gold pieces.
We spent the night in Glen Hollow and in the morning walked west. After two hours, we found an area filled with six foot tall barrows. In the middle of them was a bonfire. Black clad figures danced around the fire. Ghostly shapes swirled around as well. The openings to all of the barrows were walled up, except for one. This one had two torches next to the opening.
The sorcerer sneaked onto one barrow and the ranger sneaked onto another. The bard climbed onto a third one. The cleric waited behind. We saw that there were five orcs and four ghouls around the bonfire.
We then attacked the enemies from atop the barrows. The cleric ran into the circle and joined the attack. Soon our foes had perished. We claimed five sets of scale mail and five great axes. The bard stored the items in our portable hole.
We rested there until the next morning. The sorcerer did a bit of scrying with the intestines of an orc. We learned that Vudreth, the god of slaughter, was looking for a clandestine place to create a temple. This barrow, with its large under works, was selected. The followers of Vudreth had attacked Glen Hollow to keep their new temple a secret and to also claim some human sacrifices.
We entered the barrow and found a door to the north. Inside was a sarcophagus and a bas relief of a woman. There was nothing else. The door to the south held another sarcophagus. When we entered the room, we were attacked by the spirits (in ghoul form) of the barrow’s occupants: a king and queen. We quickly slew them. We went back to the first room and passed through a curtain to the east. We were attacked by three fleshy humanoids with surgical instruments and weapons grafted onto them. The fight was hard, but brief. We won.
